Tokyo Station Gallery has gradually built up a collection over the past 30 years, and this exhibition is the first time that the entire collection is displayed.

It starts with the first theme, "Railway Art". Scenes of the railway line from Tokyo Station are displayed in forms such as Japanese style paintings, Western-style paintings, photographs and documents. The second theme is "City and Suburbs", areas connected by the railway. It offers a variety of works, including Western-style paintings that depict a Tokyo different from today, works that reconstruct the artist's memories, and realistic landscapes. The third theme is "People". Even though the pictures here depict people, their subject may be something different. After visitors have gained a sense of the diverse intentions the artists have incorporated in their works, they move on to the next theme of "Abstract". Abstract paintings tend to be regarded as 'difficult' but visitors may perhaps feel drawn slightly closer to them here. The last theme is "Picasso", whose name is a byword for 'incomprehensible paintings'. Four of his works from different periods are on display here.
Approximately 100 items are on display, including works displayed in previous exhibitions at the gallery, the original picture by Ichiro Fukuzawa for the stained glass in Tokyo Station, works displayed in the Perspectives of Contemporary Painting series of exhibitions, and works from the 2014 exhibition Tokyo Station: A Hundred Years of Its Legacy.
